With news in late today that Italian Australian entertainer Maria Venuti had suffered a stroke, the back story behind the terrible news is even more complicated and sad.
Maria Venuti had suffered a stroke earlier today and is currently in hospital in an induced coma, following a terrifying incident at her home with a stalker, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The report says the singer and actor was at her Gladesville, Sydney home alone at about 8.30am when she was disturbed by a man who allegedly had started harassing her weeks ago.
The report, echoed by this one in news.com.au, says:
Maria managed to sound an alarm, alerting police, before collapsing inside her home. Police officers arrived to find a 38-year-old man still on the premises, the Daily Telegraph reports. Witnesses said the intruder was Tasered before being apprehended.
Venuti, who celebrated her 75th birthday in March, is now at Royal North Shore Hospital with daughter Bianca by her side, where doctors determined that she had suffered a stroke during the ordeal.
Venuti’s close friend and Australian Ladies Variety Association President Susie Smither broke the news on the organisation’s Facebook page. Venuti is a patron of the organisation.
“This morning Maria has suffered a stroke and is in hospital with Bianca by her side,” Smither wrote.
“Bianca has asked that I send out this message and she asks us all for our prayers, mantras and good vibes for Maria over the next few days.
